The forecast showed a west breeze early easing turning the morning and my
original plan was to get up early and go to Levington but decided to have a
bit of a lay in after a few weeks at work. I checked the computer for wind
and it was gusting over 20 kts offshore, there are not that many options as
the tide was dropping with the wind so decided to head down to The Dip. It
looked fairly breezy so rigged the 8.5 again but this time on the longboard
but by the time I was ready the wind had dropped a little :( I soon found
the wind line so pulled the track back and put the plate up and reached
over 2 miles gybing by the ships moored up out to sea. I then had a long
reach to Bawdsey beach, not flat out but pleasant enough. I beat back to
the flat water by the shingle bar but the wind was very light so went for a
beat down the coast. There seemed a decent breeze fairly close to the
shore, I avoided the many open water swimmers at The Fludgers but by the
time I got near Landguard the wind dropped again after being nicely in the
beating straps. It was then a 4 mile slow reach back to the van. So nearly
3 hours on the water and if I had been brave enough to rig 9.4 I would have
been a little faster but after breaking my mast last Sunday I erred on the
side of caution Tuesday/Wednesday looking promising for a bit of shortboard
cruising - fingers crossed!
